Sri Panchami or Basanta Panchami

Sri Panchami festival represents the spring season in Nepal. It is also the festival celebrated to honor Saraswoti, the goddess of knowledge. Thousands of school and college students offer worship at the temples of Saraswoti. Books, pens, musical instruments ink and spinning wheels are also worshipped on the occasion. Saraswoti temples of Swoyambhu and Gairidhara are the centers of such religious activities in Kathmandu. 

When is Basanta Panchami celebrated?

It falls on the 5th day of the bright lunar fortnight. celebrated to honor Saraswoti, the goddess of knowledge.

Why is Basanta Panchami celebrated?

Sri Panchami or Bassanta panchami is celebrated to honor Goddess Saraswoti, the goddess of knowledge. Knowledge is power and it is extremely important to honor our books, education and schools.

How is Basanta Panchami celebrated?

On this day Basanta Shrawan, a religious function, is held at the courtyard of Hanuman Dhoka palace. Geet Govinda ( verses written by poet Jaya Dev) is recited by the priest. The president graces the occasion.
